No referral is necessary to be assessed or treated by one of our physiotherapists. We do welcome patients who have been referred by their family doctor or other health care professionals and many insurance companies require a referral.
The initial assessment consists of a thorough health history and focused physical examination that will help identify what the problem is and which tissue is affected. It will also help to determine the root cause of both the pain and the underlying/resulting dysfunction. The physiotherapist will then go over the diagnosis and the suggested therapies that may be used to treat the problem. A treatment is often performed on the first visit depending on the complexity of the case. The typical initial assessment takes between 40 and 60 minutes. The Physiotherapist will inform the patient of the extent of treatment recommended and how long it can be expected to last.
