Marcia de Gouw is a certified physiotherapist licensed with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario and is a member of the Canadian Physiotherapy Association. She completed her Honours Bachelor of Arts Degree in Kinesiology and Physical Education at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo and her Master of Physical Therapy Degree at the University of Western Ontario. She has over ten years of experience working in private care and continues to be driven by new opportunities to further herself as a clinician and optimize the health and rehabilitation of her clients post-injury.
Marcia has joined the Damen Optimal Health Team with a wealth of experience working in a variety of rehabilitation settings, including working with the Kitchener Rangers of the Ontario Hockey League. Completion of her Advanced Orthopaedic Manual and Manipulative Therapy Level 3 through the Canadian Physiotherapy Association Orthopaedic Division, has provided her with the evidence-based practice, clinical reasoning and therapeutic skills needed to provide patients with the most effective patient-centred care possible.
Marcia’s training in Contemporary Acupuncture through the Acupuncture Foundation of Canada Institute allows her to offer complementary and alternative therapy to stimulate the body’s natural healing abilities and promote physical and emotional well-being. Special training in Women’s Health issues has provided her with the expertise to work with pre and post-natal patients and individuals with pelvic floor insufficiency. Oncology Rehabilitation training has provided her with the skills and confidence to work with individuals through-out all stages of cancer treatment to maximize treatment outcomes and improve quality of life.
Marcia grew up as a competitive Canadian and Irish Step-dancer and represented Canada internationally. Her background in dance has made her more aware of the importance of good posture and a strong core in injury prevention and rehabilitation, as well as in optimizing sport performance and daily function. Marcia has completed Clinical Pilates Instructor training through the Advanced Physical Therapy Education Institute and Stott Pilates.
Marcia is passionate about working with patients of all ages, from infants with torticollis to seniors with failing gait and arthritis. Private, WSIB and Motor Vehicle Accident patients are all welcome and may be self or physician referred.
