Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy at Damen Optimal Health Team is different than what you may have experienced at other physiotherapy clinics, we provide one-on-one physiotherapy and rehabilitation services in private physio rooms. We are equipped with a physiotherapy gym containing all the modern physiotherapy equipment including a Stott Pilates reformer. Damen Optimal Health Team works hard to provide highly specific therapy without compromise, and without higher fees.

Physiotherapy uses a variety of specialized techniques including exercise rehabilitation therapy; clinical pilates;  postural re-training; gait analysis and retraining balance and co-ordination re-training; and mobilization of tissues and joints with manual therapy techniques and manipulations. Physiotherapists may use additional physical therapy modalities including electrotherapy, ultrasound, acupuncture, and Athletic taping and bracing. Damen Optimal Health Team physiotherapists have the expert skills to assess, diagnose and treat your injury. The physiotherapists at Damen Optimal Health Team work side by side with the other practitioners in order to assist patients in achieving full recovery and their optimal state of health and well-being.

The physiotherapists at Damen Optimal Health are trained as experts in the non-surgical treatment of a wide range of musculoskeletal conditions and injuries:

  • Pre and Post-operative care

  • Pelvic floor dysfunction

  • Post natal rehabilitation

  • Postural dysfunction

  • Carpal tunnel and wrist injuries

  • Lower back pain

  • Neck and shoulder pain

  • Hip and buttock pain

  • Rotator cuff injuries

  • Headaches and migraines

  • Sciatica

No referral is necessary to be assessed or treated by one of our physiotherapists.  We do welcome patients who have been referred by their family doctor or other health care professionals and many insurance companies require a referral.

The initial assessment consists of a thorough health history and focused physical examination that will help identify what the problem is and which tissues are affected. It will also help to determine the root cause of both the pain and the underlying/resulting dysfunction. The physiotherapist will then go over the diagnosis and the suggested therapies that may be used to treat the problem. A treatment is often performed on the first visit depending on the complexity of the case. The typical  initial assessment takes between 40 and 60 minutes. The Physiotherapist will inform the patient of the extent of treatment recommended and how long it can be expected to last.
