Chiropractic Care
Chiropractic care is one of the largest primary contact regulated health care professions in Canada. A Chiropractor is a health care professional that focuses on treating disorders of the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system. Over 4.5 million Canadians rely on chiropractic care every year to deal with problems such as acute low-back pain, neck pain and headaches
Chiropractic health care uses several very safe, non-invasive techniques to restore normal motion to dysfunctional joints and muscles in both the spine and extremities. The Chiropractors assess and treat injuries as well as dysfunction of movement patterns and muscular imbalances. To achieve this they also use different techniques such as Active Release Technique to treat the involved muscles, ligaments, tendons and fascia. The chiropractors at Damen Optimal Health mostly use their hands for treatments but they also use other tools such as Graston, Mulligan belts and the Activator. They also use other modalities such as heat, ultrasound, electrotherapy, acupuncture, athletic taping (Kin Tape), exercises, and other manual therapy techniques.
Common conditions successfully treated by chiropractic include:
Lower back pain
Neck and shoulder pain
Hip and buttock pain
TMJ
Rotator cuff injuries
Headaches and migraines
Sciatica
Arthritis
Muscular and motor pattern imbalances
Repetitive stress injuries
No referral is necessary to be assessed or treated by one of our Chiropractors. We do welcome patients who have been referred to a Chiropractor by their family doctor or other health care professionals.
The initial chiropractic assessment consists of a thorough health history and focused physical examination that will help identify what the problem is and which tissue is affected. It will also help to determine the root cause of both the pain and the underlying/resulting dysfunction. The Chiropractor will then go over the diagnosis and the suggested therapies that may be used to treat the problem.. A chiropractic treatment is often performed on the first visit depending on the complexity of the case. The typical chiropractic initial assessment takes between 40 and 60 minutes. The Chiropractor will inform the patient of the extent of treatment recommended and how long it can be expected to last. The goal of the Chiropractor is to resolve pain, restore function, and reduce incidences of recurrence. The chiropractors at Damen Optimal Health Team work side by side with the other practitioners in order to assist patients in achieving full recovery and their optimal state of health and well-being.
